Brooks Nature Area welcomes visitors

The semi-annual Brooks Nature Area Open House is held in April and October each year. Visitors explore miles of trails; enjoy old-growth forests, guided hikes, and complimentary refreshments. Younger visitors are invited to join an educational scavenger hunt throughout the park.
This fall as a special added attraction, Stuart Lakes own Lori Feldpausch from the Great Lakes Painters Association was stationed in the park painting in the “plein air” or open air style. She was situated near the trails for visitors to observe while enjoying the park in its fall splendor.
The Open House allows guests to observe changes that are continuing at the Brooks Nature Area. Recently, members of Marshall Cub Scout Pack 337 built and donated 23 bluebird and wren houses that have been installed throughout the park. Numerous tree signs made by local volunteers, aid visitors with species identification.
The Calhoun Conservation District donated 45 native tree seedlings this year which were planted along the trailway and the Calhoun County Chapter of Wild Ones donated 250 native wildflower plugs. Volunteers planted wildflowers throughout the prairie areas in September.
